Good range of socks that have certainly worked for me!

Socks. What can you say about them? Well normally not a lot more than you wear them on your feet (well most of the time!) and they keep your feet warm and covered!

But when it comes to socks for use in cadets and particularly when in the field, marching or on an expedition they become a lot more important and spending a little time thinking about them will save you a lot of discomfort later!

One make that you will find in most stores is the 1000 mile socks. Now these socks make a bold no blister guarantee and state that they will last you for 1000 miles!

Big claims! So I thought I’d give them a go, see how they went and write a review of them.

When I first got them I was very surprised at how thin they were. Being used to wearing two pairs of socks with my boots, a thin lining pair and a thicker outer pair, these 1000 mile socks were not much thicker than the lining pairs I’m used to!

I opted for a green pair, although in all honesty once they are in your boots what colour they are isn’t all that important! Looking at them to see what makes these so different you notice that they have two layers built into them and are in fact two pairs of socks in one.

Putting them on they felt very comfortable and when walking in them you can feel the inner sock moving within the outer sock, just as you would when wearing two pairs of socks.

One thing I will say though is that they have no thicker sections on them so they offer no cushioning on the heels or balls of your feet like some thicker socks do so I would recommend you wear a comfy pair of insoles in your boots if you wear these.

When out walking in them I’ve found them to be very comfortable and their two layer construction seems to really work allowing your feet to move slightly inside your socks and boots without causing the friction on your heels that causes blisters. The same happens under the balls of your feet where the double layers stop the friction that can cause blisters.

Now I can’t say that I’ve walked anywhere near 1000 miles in them but over the distances I have walked in them I’ve found them to be very comfy. The furthest I’ve walked in them would be about 8 miles in one trip and I’ve worn them on fieldcraft weekends as well.

Now as for the no blisters, I would agree to a point! I’ve not had blisters on my heels or balls of my feet but I have had the occasional blister between my toes! Not that I think I can hold this against the socks!

All in all I think these are a good range of socks that have certainly worked for me!

So far so good

It says you can walk 1000 miles in them and not get blisters and I'm not sure about that but so far no problems - will add another review once I've had more time to test the claim.
