Personal Kit, *Essential* - as used by Ray Mears
This is one of those rare items of GENIUS kit. It doesn't need frills or gimmicks. One of those "don't leave home without it" items that cannot actually be improved upon, despite BCB making a (unnecessary) Mk2 version.
1) The capacity is superior to other military mugs that I've seen. You can cook non ration pack meals in this compact pot.
2) The base is large, allowing for quicker heating and better stability even on an open fire.
3) The material is extremely tough.
4) After about a minute off the cooker/fire, you're able to drink STRAIGHT from the mug without burning your lips (test for yourself cautiously - I accept no responsibility!).
I was issued 2x of these in the 1990s. I've not used anything else since, whether during service, camping or bushcraft. Prior to that, I used the easily dentable '44 Patt Mug and Mess Tins. Buy this mug and you're no mug - you'll never need to buy a replacement, provided that you don't lose it.
Nests perfectly with the Crusader Cooker and '58 Waterbottle and Mug. For bushcraft, you can keep this boiling water on the go in the edge of an open fire whilst you drink/eat from your plastic '58 Mug.
