On Saturday 21st April 1414 (Crowborough) Air Cadet Squadron will meet at Barnsgate Manor Crowborough for their annual dinner. They will be celebrating their wonderful year where 12 new cadets joined 1414.

The heart of the evening will be celebrating 100 years of the RAF, of which part is inspiring the next generation and where better to start than with the current air cadets. In the last year alone cadets from the squadron have attended a wide variety of courses including field craft, first aid, aerospace instruction, archery, simulated flying and real flying! One cadet has even just returned from a trip to NASA where he met real life astronauts and joined in with some of their training. Others have been on adventure training camps, completed a long list of exams and supported the Royal British Legion in their Poppy Appeal fundraising.

1414 Sqn cadets will be raising money during the evening with an auction and raffle thanks to the fantastic support of Cadet Direct who have donated a military rucksack plus Cadet Direct gift vouchers for previous events. 1414 Sqn need to replace their very old computers which are used solely by the cadets to take their lessons and exams which lead to classifications. Progression through the classifications gives individual cadets a high level of responsibility and gives them more options within the organisation. The squadron will be joined on the evening by their supporters, their President Nus Ghani MP, members of The Royal British Legion and The Lions Club as well as family and friends.

Their Commanding Officer WO Mark Hobbs said “It is an honour to work with such highly dedicated and engaging young people and the support that the squadron has received during the last year from the local community has made us realise how valued they are within our local area. As a unit we have achieved so much in the last few months but we owe a lot to our wide circle of friends and supporters in and around Crowborough, including Cadet Direct.”

Air Cadet Flt Sgt Georgia Alison is presented with her certificate

Also originally at 1414 Sqn, Air Cadet Flight Sergeant Georgia Alison, who recently became The Lord Lieutenants Cadet for East Sussex, has also been selected by Sussex Wing to take part in the ACT 75 Sword. This event chooses the best Female Air Cadet of the year. As if that wasn’t enough, Georgia has spent a week in Somerset with the CVQO Westminster Award team and is waiting to hear if she has made it from the final 40 to the last 10!
