A Good Bergen for Cadets & DofE
Picking the right bergan is an important decision for anyone in the cadet forces – pay too much and you’ll be out of pocket, pay too little and you may end up with a bergan that falls apart just when you don’t it. So taking a bit of time over the decision is worthwhile.
This bergan is based on the British Army PLCE 100ltr bergan and so has many of the features of the issue bergan that will be recognised by many of you.
I've found mine to be a well made bergan that has withstood the treatment cadet field craft weekends etc. can dish out over the last year and apart from being slightly dirtier now it’s still in very good condition with no loose stitching or tears. I’ve not even lost a buckle or broken a zip!
The main body has a single large compartment which is big enough for your spare kit, sleeping bag & basha. It is secured at the top by a pull cord with a sand/storm lock at the top as well to fully enclose the contents. The lid is fixed to the bergan and is secured by two quick release buckles which can be adjusted to compensate for how full the bergan is.
The lid its self has a zipped compartment on the top which is ideal for a water proof jacket etc.
The two side pouches can be zipped together to create a ‘rocket pack’ day sack by attaching a yoke(not supplied with the bergan)the pouches are identical to those
on the issue pack and I have attached issue DPM pouches to
my Snugpak bergan with no problems as well.
The whole bergan is constructed from nylon and as mentioned earlier mine has proven to be very hard wearing and it has been made to usual standard that I have personally come to expect from Snugpak products.
Would I recommend this bergan for cadet & DofE use? I would, yes. Its the pack I own and use and have had no issues with it at all.
